Twinning Induced Plasticity Steels Description

Twinning Induced Plasticity (Twinning Induced Plasticity) steel, usually called TWIP steel, was discovered in 1997 when Grassel et al. experimentally studied Fe-Mn-Si-Al TRIP steel. When the manganese content reaches 25wt% and the aluminum content exceeds 3wt%, When the silicon content is between 2wt% and 3wt%, the product of tensile strength (Rm) and elongation (A) is more than 50000MPa%, which is twice that of high-strength and toughness TRIP steel. Since the high strength and toughness of this type of alloy comes from the formation of twins during the deformation process rather than the phase transformation in TRIP steel, it is named Twinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steel.
